The Brandon Wheat Kings and Ty Thorpe have agreed to terms on a standard player agreement. The Brandon native was selected 54th overall in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.

Thorpe, 16, has spent the last two years playing with The Rink Hockey Academy's Bantam and Midget hockey programs after playing AAA in Brandon with the Bantam Wheat Kings. It was after a 30-goal, 70-point 2015-16 campaign in Brandon that the now 5-foot-11, 165-pound forward decided to switch over to the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.

In 69 games with RHA, Thorpe has 28 goals, 75 points and 72 penalty minutes. He also has produced at a point-per-game rate in the playoffs, collecting four goals and eight points in eight playoff games with the Nationals. As a first-year midget, Thorpe put up 15 goals and 33 points in 33 games.

The Brandon Wheat Kings kick off their 2018-19 regular season on Friday, September 21st against the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors, as they look to build off of their 2017-18 campaign that saw the Wheaties finish the year first in the Eastern Conference Wild Card race with a 40-27-5 record, before falling out of the Western Hockey League's playoffs in the second round.
