It was announced earlier this week that Winnipeg-born forward Eric Fawkes has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the 2020-21 season.

The 17-year-old put up 47 goals, 115 points and 68 penalty minutes in two season's worth of Manitoba Midget AAA hockey. The former 40th overall selection by the Seattle Thunderbirds in the 2016 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft now stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 185 pounds. In 12 games of Manitoba Junior Hockey League play with the Winkler Flyers, Fawkes has a goal and four points.

"I'm happy and proud to announce my commitment to RPI," the former Winnipeg Twin, Monarch and Wild said. "I want to thank everyone who has helped me along the way and most of all my family. I am excited to further my education and play high level hockey."

RPI (Troy, NY) plays in the ECAC Division of the NCAA. The Engineers finished the 2017-18 season with a dismal 6-27-4 record in 37 regular season games. RPI was bumped out of the playoffs in the third game of a best-of-three against Colgate University in the opening round of ECAC postseason action in early March.
