The third annual Matt Calvert Charity Golf Tournament held on June 27th in Brandon, MB. raised a total of $56,390.48 for Cancer Care Westman.

After a successful inaugural launch in 2017, Calvert held an equally effective second annual golf tournament/fundraiser in 2018, raising a combined $92K over the two events for local charities. On Friday it was announced that the $56K raised during the 2019 running of the Matt Calvert Charity Golf Shootout would go to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Cancer Care Westman and cancer research.

Calvert - now a member of the Colorado Avalanche - and a handful of his close NHL colleagues put on a show at the Wheat City Golf Course on McDonald Avenue, before heading over to the Victoria Inn and Hotel for the remainder of the formal portion of the night. Once again, Calvert suited up alongside his father Leo and brothers Mike and Mark in a foursome.

Calvert, 29, played his minor hockey in his native Brandon, before dressing for 198 games for the Brandon Wheat Kings in the late 2000s. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound forward recorded 99 goals, 230 points and 181 penalty minutes in three seasons for the Wheaties.

Eight seasons of NHL hockey with the Columbus Blue Jackets provided Calvert with the opportunity of three postseason runs, and 72 goals, 149 points and 273 penalty minutes in 416 career games. The Brandonite swapped teams in the NHL's Central Division during the summer of 2018, signing a three-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche, worth an annual average value of $2.85 million. In his first season with the Avs, Calvert put up 11 goals and a career high 26 points in a full 82 games, before adding four assists in eight postseason contests.
