The Manitoba Junior Hockey League has announced the two recipients for its weekly and monthly honours, naming Codey Behun the Player of the Week and Drew Anderson the Player of the Month.
On top of the weekly and monthly winner, the MJHL also announced the month's best goaltender, defenceman, rookie and peak performer. Michael Davis, Curtis Ireland, Colton Friesen and Nolan Ferguson collected those honours, respectively.
Behun, an 18-year-old Winnipegger, put up two goals and two assists in two games for the Winnipeg Blues last week, and now sits first in league scoring with seven goals and second with 10 points in just six regular season games played. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound forward beat out runners up Isaac Labelle of Wayway and Josh Maucieri of Swan Valley.
Anderson, 20, collected two goals and seven points in four games for the 4-0 Waywayseecappo Wolverines in the month of September. Not only was it personal gain for the Portage native, as Anderson's team has yet to lose when the forward records a point. He beat out Winnipeg's Behun and Swan Valley's Josh Tripp for the monthly award.
September's MJHL Defenceman of the Month Curtis Ireland, put together five assists in four games for the Steinbach Pistons. Michael Davis recorded three straight victories, a shutout, a .937 save percentage and a 1.67 goals against average en route to his Goaltender of the Month honour.
17-year-old Colton Friesen of Winkler earned the MJHL's Rookie of the Month award with his four assists in four games for the Flyers. Nolan Ferguson contributed both on and off the ice within the community of Selkirk this past month, delivering season tickets to local fans, while volunteering at the Terry Fox Run and participating in the Run for the Cure cancer run in Selkirk, on top of helping out with minor hockey practices in the community of Beausejour.
Wayway faces off against Virden on Thursday evening, in preparation for a busy weekend of MJHL hockey that features at least one game from every team in the league.
