The Fleming Family Scholarship has its second recipient.

On Saturday, the $1,200.00 Flaming Family Scholarship was presented to 2018-19 recipient Aaron Kaatz. The 23-year-old product of Winnipeg Minor Hockey has spent the past six seasons coaching hockey, and is currently the second-year Head Coach of the Winnipeg Hawks AAA Bantam 1 team.

Kaatz is a university student at the University of Winnipeg, where he is studying business administration. The scholarship was presented to Kaatz prior to his team's 5-4 loss to the Winnipeg Hawks at Maples Community Centre by Jennifer Fleming.

Fleming fabricated the monetary award in memory of her brother Wayne and father Jake to be presented annually to a young hockey coach within Manitoba who shows similar leadership characteristics to her past family members. Jake helped begin the AAA tier of hockey within Winnipeg, while Wayne has coached with Philadelphia and Tampa Bay of the National Hockey League, as well as in the Olympics with Team Canada. He is a member of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame.
