Winnipeg Avros netminder Rachel Parson has been awarded the Manitoba Female Midget AAA Hockey League's Player of the Week award.
The Avros put together a three-win week of hockey, led in a large part by the grade 12 goaltender. The Manitoban backstop dressed in two games, putting together two wins, a shutout and only one goal against in two full games of hockey.
On Wednesday, Parson stopped 19 pucks in picking up a 4-1 win over the Pembina Valley Hawks, before putting up a shutout on 23 shots against in a tight 3-0 game over the Westman Warriors on Saturday - her second game back-to-back. In turning aside 42 of 43 shots in the week, the 17-year-old boasted a .977 save percentage, to go along with her third shutout of the season.
For the season, the Winnipeg product holds a 7-2-0 record, and has never given up more than two goals in a game in her nine starts. She boast a 0.95 goals against average and a .944 save percentage, while stopping 118 of 125 shots faced. The third place Avros will host the Central Plains Capitals on Saturday from Seven Oaks Arena at 3:00 P.M. in their next test.
