Winnipeg's own Colton Veloso will be playing professional hockey in 2018-19. After signing with the East Coast Hockey League's Jacksonville Icemen, the 21-year-old also landed a tryout with the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose.

As affiliate teams, the Icemen and Moose will certainly place Veloso in the best position for his success in 2018-19. The six-foot, 190-pound winger spent the past three seasons playing for the Portland Winterhawks and Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League.

He compiled 29 goals and 50 points in 142 games for Portland, before putting up a career best 25 goals and 47 points in 71 games last season for Kootenay. Following the completion of the Ice's 2017-18 campaign, Veloso dressed in four games for the Icemen.

The Manitoba Moose finished the 2017-18 season third in the AHL's Central Division, going 42-26-8, before making it to the second round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. The Jacksonville Icemen finished fifth in the ECHL's South Division at 26-39-7. The Icemen failed to qualify for the 2018 postseason.
