The Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League has named Kylie Lesuk its Player of the Week for the first week of October.
Lesuk - a grade 11 student - registered a goal and three assists, contributing on four of the Eastman Selects' eight goals in their 8-1 drubbing of the Interlake Lightning this past Saturday. The second-year alternate captain also played a solid all-round game in the Selects' 1-0 loss to the Winnipeg Ice the following day.
Leading by example, the Oakbank native maintains a heavy schedule, while trying to keep hockey at the forefront. The honour roll student at Springfield Collegiate continues to be involved with the game even when not scheduled for games or practices. She serves a referee in her spare time, and is one of 27 players currently on Manitoba's Program of Excellence set to participate in February's 2019 Canada Games.
The 5-foot-6, 130-pound centreman collected 12 goals, 22 points and 12 penalty minutes for Eastman in 29 regular season games in 2017-18, before adding three goals, 11 points and six penalty minutes in 13 playoff games. The Eastman Selects resume their schedule this weekend, with home contests on Saturday and Sunday against the Yellowhead Chiefs and Pembina Valley Hawks, respectively.
