University of Manitoba Bisons forward Jordyn Zacharias has been named the Canada West Female Second Star of the Week.
In her two games last week, the fourth-year forward collected four goals, including the U-Sports/CIS record for the fastest hat trick in league history (6:38), beating the old benchmark by nearly three minutes. The 5-foot-5, 140-pound Winnipeg native recorded her hat trick in the third period of Manitoba's 8-0 rout of the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Friday, before adding another marker on Saturday, going bar-down on a breakaway opportunity.
Zacharias now has five goals and six points, trailing only Sheridan Oswald and Lauryn Keen (nine points each) through 10 regular season games, while leading the bisons with 31 shots on goals. The Fort Richmond alum led Manitoba in scoring in 2017-18, earning herself a place on the Canada West First Team All-Star squad.
Following two seasons playing for the St. Mary's Academy AAA Prep squad, the now 21-year-old dressed for 55 games for the Winnipeg Avros of the MFMHL, scoring a goal-per-game and adding 17 assists for 72 points. Zacharias took her talents south to the University of Connecticut in 2015-16, before joining the U of M for her first season of play in 2016-17. In 64 game with the Bisons, Zacharias has 28 goals and 42 points.
